Stevenson Ave upcoming closure

Tue Aug 02 03:40pm

Kia ora Families,

You may have noticed that the sign at the bottom of Station Rd. indicating that Stevenson Ave will be closed for a significant duration.

I can confirm that this will only be the ‘other’ half of Stevenson Ave and access to the school will not be affected. It will put a little additional stress on other roads so please do be mindful of children walking to school. Blackman Ave will also be used as the alternative bus route (see image below) so may be best to avoid if possible.

Our half of Stevenson Ave will be worked on next year and we will be working with the DCC to limit disruption.

Ka mihi,

Gareth Swete

Term 3 COVID and mask update

Fri Jul 22 12:34pm

Kia ora Families,

I hope that you have all had a chance to recharge over the holidays and the kids are ready to go for another action-packed term!

As mentioned at the end of last term, we have been busy reviewing our COVID situation to ensure that we have the most up to date and balanced practices in place for the safety of all.

We have been advised by the Ministry of Education that we need to continue our mask procedures for the first four weeks of school. This means that we will be once again asking all children Year 4 and above to be masked while indoors. This decision from the MoE, and specifically the Otago regional office, is based on the evidence and statistics around not only COVID cases, but our health systems ability to cope with the large spike of respiratory illnesses that occur in the first few weeks of Term 3. Please be assured that we have become very used to modifying our day to provide plenty of fresh air and outdoor breaks.

If you have previously indicated that your child has a mask exemption, you will not need to re-indicate this, we will assume that this remains the case unless told otherwise. Please do remember that any adults entering the school grounds need to be masked as well.

We appreciate that this is a continued sacrifice by our children and staff. We also appreciate that this is a highly emotive topic for many families. This is why we have purposely not taken any steps to put a formal policy in place for our school. We are simply asking for your continued support and understanding as we do our very best.

Thank you once again for your understanding. We will continue to adapt to the most recent advice and requirements as they come to ensure that we are working our way back to ‘normal’ as quickly as we can.

Ka mihi nui,

Gareth Swete

COVID/Illness and masks

Tue Jul 05 07:51pm

Kia ora Families,

It has been a while since a COVID update, but here we are.

Over the last two weeks we have seen a huge spike in absences due to gastro bugs, COVID, flus and colds. There are schools all over NZ closing due to illness and staffing shortages. It is taking a very evident toll on the learning of many of our akonga.

Our children are tired after a massive term and the worst possible scenario would be for them to fall ill over the holiday period and miss out on the two weeks needed to ‘recharge’.

We are continuing all of our protocols within the school to ensure that we are doing everything we can to keep your children well. The one factor that you will be aware has changed is masks requirements. Our staff continue to mask and we again strongly encourage our children to mask indoors once again.

At this stage we are not looking to reintroduce masks requirements more than our strong encouragement unless we see a large risk of infection within the school. We would very much appreciate you discussing this with your child/ren.

Please also remember that while we are very happy to have parents picking up from inside the school grounds, we do require any adults on site to be masked unless a mask exemption is in place.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Ka mihi nui

Potential disruption on Stevenson ave this morning

Mon Jun 13 08:43am

Kia ora koutou,

Delta have set up on Stevenson ave this morning and will be trimming trees. This is going to have an impact on the crossing and parking outside of the school. They are unclear on their plan just yet but we will have to be ready for disruption. The Church carpark may be a better drop off spot for cars this morning.

Fingers crossed that they will be well and truly done by 2.45pm.
